CASE was formed in 2007 as a result of a series of studies undertaken by DARE - (Devon Action for Renewable Energy). These studies looked in detail at the specific opportunities for Wind, Hydro, Solar thermal, PV and Biomass as sources of Renewable Energy in the immediate environs of Chagford.
The Report was very positive and CASE was formed by a group of attendees at the final presentation by DARE. Our objective was - and still is - to try and make some of the opportunities happen !
With initial funding of £760 from the DNPA (DSDF Fund) we were able to purchase a wind speed data logger, several energy meters for monitoring electricity consumption and a number of appropriate publications. The funding also allows us to hire local facilities for films and talks, pay for photocopying and laminating of posters and cover other incidental expenses.
Members of the group made it clear that they did not want regular and frequent meetings but preferred to keep in touch using the web. Since that time the main forum for discussion amongst members of the group is our Yahoo discussion Group: Case_Talk. For details on how to join in the discussion, click the appropriate tab.
At this time, all our members are on email and are part of this discussion group. A subscription fee of £10 was introduced at the last AGM and this provides a working fund for hire of meeting halls and publicity. If you wish to join other than via Case_Talk then contact Perran Newman on 01647 432120.
Our first major project has been an attempt to get a cluster of Solar Hot Water (SHW) systems installed within the Parish. We made a successful bid to the DSDF for a fund that has allowed us to offer a £1000 grant to households installing SHW. This is in addition to the usual £400 grant that is available if an approved installer is used. Some conditions apply and details are available on this site. With the grateful help of Bowdens, we have installed a battery recycle point in this well known store. A prominently decorated flip-top bin has been filled at least twice, preventing a massive weight of used batteries from going to landfill.
