SOLAR HOT WATER (SHW)

For many people who wish to make a more sustainable use of energy, heating your domestic hot water from the power of the sun is the best starting point.

Such systems are still relatively rare and many feel that until the industry has matured and UK production of systems has increased that entry price and the undoubted presence of 'cowboys' puts many people off.

CASE have obtained a grant fund from the DNPA to assist households within the Whiddon Parishes in overcoming the enrtry price barrier. We believe that once people start seeing solar panels on local roofs, the word will spread about the benefits and take-up will increase.

The UK government already provide a small grant of £400 so long as you use an approved installer. CASE have an additional grant of £1000 available but numbers are limited.

Certain conditions have to be met to access either grant. For the £400 government grant the conditions include: Cavity wall insulation if appropriate, energy saving light bulb in all main rooms and proper controls on any domestic heating system. You also need to use an approved installer.

The CASE grant includes all these requirements but it is not necessary to use an approved installer. You could implement a DIY system if that is where your interest lies. However, in addition you must agree to provide data on your energy consumption prior to fitting the SHW system and log it's performance for a period of at least a year.

The data you collect can be used by CASE on this website although you may remain anonymous.

Both the Government and CASE grants are awarded after you have completed your installation.

If you are interested in a grant then your first step is to contact CASE. Call Perran Newman on 01647 432120
